Mutualink

Challenge

Mutualink, Inc., a multimedia interoperability emergency communications company based in Wallingford, Connecticut, is the creator of an innovative platform that creates networks of interoperable communities that are, at an instant, capable of sharing radio, voice, text, video, data files and telephone communications in a secure environment.  This platform may be used daily or in response to an emergency incident, allowing public and private agencies to seamlessly communicate with each other in real time, on a dynamic ad hoc basis by invitation at the participant’s discretion.  A young and growing company, Mutualink is already a trusted resource to several high profile agencies including the Pentagon and NATO Allied Forces in Afghanistan, as well as many other communities throughout the United States, with its largest presence in Northern New Jersey.  Mutualink desired to break into the Massachusetts market and retained O’Neill and Associates for government relations and relationship marketing services relative to these goals.

Solution

In order to help Mutualink gain a foothold in the Massachusetts market, O’Neill and Associates reached out to public and private entities across the state to introduce their platform.  While Mutualink was very well received, securing the participation of the City of Boston was of critical interest to all potential users.  O’Neill and Associates approached the City of Boston to pursue a pilot program with several critical public safety agencies.  By facilitating meetings with the right decision makers, briefing Mutualink on the City’s priorities and working with the Boston Police Department, the Department of Innovation and Technology and the Department of Homeland Security, O’Neill and Associates was able to secure a multi-agency pilot program within a year.  Agencies included in the pilot are the Boston Police Department, Boston Fire Department, Boston Emergency Medical Services, Boston Transportation Department, Boston University, Boston Medical Center, Massachusetts Bay Transit Authority, Massachusetts Convention Center Authority and Massachusetts General Hospital, with several others slated to join in the coming months.  O’Neill and Associates is also working to facilitate relationships between Mutualink and other public agencies and municipalities including the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, State Police, Massport, MassDOT, US Coast Guard Sector Boston, Boston Public Schools, Boston Municipal Police, Boston College, Tufts University, Prudential Center, Boston Red Sox, NStar, National Grid and the Cities of Cambridge, Somerville and Chelsea.

Results

The City of Boston and Mutualink are currently actively engaged in the pilot program and O’Neill and Associates continues their work with Mutualink to further expand their reach. Due to the work of O’Neill and Associates, Mutualink, a company with no presence in Massachusetts, is now doing business in the Commonwealth and expanding relationships with universities, state and local agencies, utilities, hospitals and beyond throughout the region.
