As a vice president in O’Neill and Associates communications practice, Carol Yelverton provides clients with a broad range of communications services including electronic communications, branding, crisis management, media relations and creative collateral material development. Her public affairs acumen stems from years of experience working in nonprofits, government and broadcast media.

Before joining O’Neill and Associates, Ms. Yelverton led the communications efforts for the Massachusetts Legal Assistance Corporation, where she developed innovative branding and electronic communications practices. She also provided consultation for 20 legal aid programs statewide, including media relations, crisis planning, messaging, media training and web site development. Previously, Ms. Yelverton directed communications, marketing and government relations for the American Red Cross’s National Northeast region through the pivotal ‘04 hurricane season,‘05 tsunami relief efforts and Hurricane Katrina response. In this role, Ms. Yelverton managed state relation systems with Northeast Governors and other elected officials. She served as a national spokesperson and oversaw multi-faceted corporate communications and marketing efforts with emphasis on electronic communications and creative practices. In addition, Ms. Yelverton provided communications consultation to over 40 Red Cross chapters from Maine to Pennsylvania on media relations and strategic communications.

Ms. Yelverton is also the former director of public affairs for the Massachusetts Department of Social Services, where she oversaw all external affairs, community relations and communications processes as well as staff, budget and administrative issues. Her duties included management of design, writing and production of creative marketing materials, including highly acclaimed brochures and newsletters. Ms. Yelverton’s work at the agency in both strategic and crisis communications resulted in significant measurable turnaround of public perception during her tenure.

Ms. Yelverton began her career as a journalist, working as a TV news reporter in Providence, RI on WLNE-TV and in the Boston market on New England Cable News, WB56 and FOX25. She is also a former contributing writer for the Los Angeles Times.

Ms. Yelverton has taught broadcast journalism at her alma mater, Emerson College, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in mass communications.

Ms. Yelverton sits on the Council of the United Church of Christ Metropolitan Boston Association, which provides resources to nurture and oversee the ministries of 78 Boston area churches and clergy.
