Cyber Security and Consumer Data:
State and Federal Efforts to Prevent Cyber Fraud
The integrity of consumer data has become more critical than ever. New episodes of identity
theft are being reported every day, and major data breaches by American retailers and other
companies threaten to shake public confidence in our electronic commerce infrastructure. O'Neill and Associates hosted
a luncheon discussion featuring speakers at the forefront of efforts in Washington and Massachusetts to examine new
legislative tools for combating identity theft and cyber fraud, and determining how the private
sector can help.
Moderated by vice president Cosmo Macero Jr., our panelists included:
- Dr. Douglas Maughan – Program Manager, Cyber Security Research & Development, U.S. Department of Homeland Security;
- Lois Johnson – Senior Counsel, Policy & Government, Office of the Massachusetts Attorney General;
- State Senator Michael Morrissey – Chair, Joint Committee on Consumer Protection and Professional Licensure;
- Robert Kamerschen – Vice President, Law & Public Policy, ChoicePoint Inc.;
- Kevin M. Tierney Sr. – President and CEO, Saugusbank.
