Big Apple Circus
Challenge
The Big Apple Circus retained O'Neill and Associates to conduct the community outreach and execute the approval process for its Boston performances. In order for the show to obtain the necessary permitting for its month-long run, Big Apple Circus needed to win the support of community members, elected officials and various oversight and safety authorities.
Solution
O’Neill and Associates presented to community groups and affected abutters, addressed their numerous concerns related to circus stereotypes, traffic, noise and safety issues. Following the community outreach phase, O’Neill and Associates worked with the Mayor’s Office of Special Events, the Office of Consumer Affairs and Licensing, the Boston Police Department, the Boston Fire Department, the Boston Transportation Department and Boston EMS to obtain close to a dozen permits necessary to erect the tents and perform the shows.
Results
The Big Apple Circus was successfully held at the Boston Fan Pier, which O'Neill and Associates has secured for the circus for the past five years. O'Neill and Associates also obtained all proper permits for the show’s performance. One such permit was specifically obtained for an act in which a man jumped through fire. This unique permitting project was greatly appreciated by the client as it understood the skill it took to secure the site and permits for a large and prominent circus.
