Jim Gordon

Vice President

Jim Gordon is a vice president within O’Neill and Associates’ federal government relations division. Bringing a unique mixture of public and private sector experience to the team, Jim’s deep knowledge of policy, legislative and regulatory issues and processes, as well as his understanding of political advocacy and stakeholder outreach strategies, helps to guide clients through the matrixes of government programs and legislative initiatives.

Prior to joining O’Neill and Associates, Jim managed U.S. federal government relations for a North American energy infrastructure company. As a manager, he was responsible for representing the company and advancing its business objectives relative to the federal government. In this role, he briefed executive leadership on developments on energy, trade, environment, and security issues, and advised on strategy regarding legislative, regulatory, and project-based initiatives. Critical to success in these efforts, Jim relied on his network of bipartisan contacts in the U.S. Congress, at both the Member and staff levels, as well as long-standing relationships with industry peers and external stakeholders. A substantial part of his focus was identifying opportunities to match up the company’s business priorities and sustainability goals within the rapidly evolving policy and political landscapes.

Before working in the energy industry, Jim spent more than 15 years with U.S. Representative Stephen F. Lynch (D-MA08) as Senior Policy Advisor in Washington, D.C., and District Representative in the Boston and South Shore-based district. In that capacity, he advised the Congressman on legislative and regulatory matters with the goal of furthering the diverse priorities of the Massachusetts 8th Congressional District. Jim worked with municipalities, educational and healthcare institutions, and non-profit organizations to identify federal funding opportunities in support of various projects and programs. To achieve success, he developed and maintained strong working relationships with regulatory and elected officials at all levels of government, as well as with business and community leaders, advocacy groups, trade organizations, and labor organizations. In addition to his public and private sector experience, Jim has been active in political campaigns at the local, state, and national levels serving as a strategist and in the field.

Jim was born and raised in Norwood, Massachusetts. He graduated from UMass Boston with a bachelor’s degree in history and a concentration in political science. He currently resides in Alexandria, Virginia, with his wife and two daughters.
