Jeremy Crockford


Jeremy J. Crockford is an associate with O’Neill and Associates. He has worked for more than 25 years as a journalist and media relations strategist specializing in politics, healthcare, transportation, the environment and crisis management.

Mr. Crockford has devised and implemented media strategies for clients including Harvard Pilgrim Health Care, Gillette, SEIU Local 615, UWUA Local 369, the Massachusetts Association of Community Development Corporations, Boston Harbor Islands National Park, a major New England airport and seaport, the Massachusetts Tobacco Control Project, the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, South End Community Health Center, the Committee to Defend Health Care and others including candidates for governor and district attorney.

Mr. Crockford left journalism in 1995 and served in the first of two of New England’s most high-profile communication jobs. As director of media relations for the Massachusetts Port Authority, Mr. Crockford oversaw crisis communications, proactive media and media strategy for Logan International Airport, the Port of Boston, Hanscom Field, Worcester Airport, the Tobin Bridge and large real estate holdings in the City of Boston.

While at Massport, Mr. Crockford helped devise the strategic media campaigns to: build a new runway at Logan; expand air service at Hanscom Field; take over and revitalize Worcester Airport; create a New England-wide airport regionalization program; and redevelop Massport properties in the politically-sensitive areas of East Boston and South Boston.

Beginning in 1999, Mr. Crockford worked for Bechtel Corp. as Chief of Staff/Director of Communications on the nation’s largest construction project, Boston’s $15 billion Big Dig. Mr. Crockford worked with the project director, deputy director and construction manager to analyze project fiscal, construction and schedule information to determine the project’s true financial condition. Mr. Crockford was instrumental in making the project’s bottom line public, and was the chief spokesman on the issue in the national and local media.

As a journalist, Mr. Crockford served as political editor and State House bureau chief for the Patriot Ledger, then the state’s largest afternoon paper. In that role he covered the presidential campaigns of Gov. Michael S. Dukakis and Sen. Paul Tsongas, the state’s fiscal crisis and the rise of Gov. William F. Weld. Mr. Crockford also worked for the Middlesex NewsMilford Daily News and United Press International.

Mr. Crockford has authored numerous op-eds that have appeared in the Boston GlobeThe New York Times, USA Today, and Wall Street Journal, along with others.
