Mass. Beer Distributors recognize 2,200+ workers who make sure the widest variety of beers make it to shelves for consumers.

Quality beer is a key ingredient for many of the people preparing to watch Super Bowl 50 this Sunday. With Game Day fast approaching, the Massachusetts Beer Distributors wish to recognize the more than 2,200 workers whose most valuable efforts place so many beers into stores, restaurants, and bars throughout Massachusetts. Their dedicated work ensures Massachusetts consumers have more quality beer options than ever.

“Enjoying a favorite beer or trying a new one is part of the Super Bowl experience for so many fans and spectators,” said Bill Kelley, president of the Beer Distributors of Massachusetts. “The Beer Distributors are key to making sure that quality products make it to market, and bringing more variety than ever to consumers. We may not have our top choice of who is playing this Sunday, but we have countless options for enjoying our beer of choice.”

The beer scene is booming in Massachusetts. The state is home to more than 75 breweries, up from 45 in 2011, according to the Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission. Massachusetts recently made the Huffington Post list of “The States with the Best Access to Great Craft Beer.”

As the Commonwealth’s beer scene booms, so does the beer distribution industry that supports it. Nearly all of the over 2,200 jobs provided by members of the Beer Distributors of Massachusetts are full time. According to an economic impact study jointly commissioned by the National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) and the Beer Institute, over 41,000 jobs in Massachusetts are linked to its strong beer industry, as branding, marketing and distributing products creates a need for additional labor. The NBWA/Beer Institute study also found that America’s beer industry contributes more than $5 billion annually to Massachusetts’ economy.

Massachusetts’ rich variety of beers will be on full display leading up to Super Bowl Sunday. According to Information Resources Inc. (IRI), Chicago, beer is the number one product category by sales dollars, generating $583 million in sales the week prior to the NFL’s flagship event.

“Super Bowl Sunday is a reminder not only of how strong our state’s beer industry is, but how much work goes into creating and building on that strength,” said Kelley. “We thank the committed workers who keep our state’s beer distribution moving ahead, and the consumers who continue to support innovation and variety.”

The Beer Distributors of Massachusetts encourages both moderation and responsible consumption before, during and after Sunday’s big event and wishes everyone a safe and responsible Super Bowl Sunday.
